Perth Folk and Roots Club is back at the Inglewood Bowling & Sports Club on Sunday 25th May 2025. For this event, performances will be Dean Anthonisz and the Maurice E Gabriel & Tyrone Tessensohn Combo. Free entry 5pm to 8pm.
Dean Anthonisz is a musician and singer songwriter who recently returned to Perth from Melbourne. In Melbourne, Dean performed with Half Mongrel at venues including the Old Bar in Fitzroy, Bar Open in Brunswick Street and the Tote Hotel in Collingwood. While in Perth, Dean was part of a number of prominent Perth bands including Mile End and Mongrel Country.
Mile End in Perth played at all Perth's original band venues like the original Hyde Park Hotel and released a number of recordings including Rumble Fish and Downers and received great reviews for both recordings and live performance with Triple J noting they ‘sound like the bastard child of The John Spencer Blues Explosion and Tom Waits transplanted at birth from the deep south and reared on the beaches of an Australian summer.’
Deans song Rumble Fish was played by the Perth Symphony Orchestra in 2016 as part of ‘A Moment in Time Concert’ showcasing Western Australian contemporary music.
Dean’s performances with Mongrel Country were also well received with their sound described as having a touch of the Velvet Underground mixed with blues and country. They had a big sound and stage presence and played at venues such as the Bakery in Perth.
The Maurice E Gabriel & Tyrone Tessensohn Combo feature Maurice on guitar and vocals, Tyrone on guitar and percussion and an assortment of guest backing musicians. They have been around the traps in Perth serving their time in many different bands and combos over many years.
They both have a love of a variety of Blues and ballads, mixed with classic tunes and harmony pieces from the Beatles to Keb Mo, Boz Scaggs to Van Morrison and Delbert McClinton to name a few. They both recently made a guest appearance playing a few blues songs at Perth Folk and Roots Club and they are now playing a full set of their music to Perth Folk and Roots Club audiences.
